The mission of the Museum is to preserve and present the Swedish American heritage in the United States for the education and enjoyment of all ages and ethnic background.

Each year more than 40,000 visitors enjoy the many programs that include special exhibits, Swedish language classes, crafts, genealogy classes, folk dancing, concerts, lectures, films, and the interactive Children's Museum of Immigration.


The Swedish American Museum Center maintains a permanent collection of history, art and artifacts dating back to the mass immigration of Swedes to the Chicago area nearly 200 years ago.


Located on the third floor of the museum. You can access actual church records from parishes all over Sweden, through the Internet program GenLine. The Center also has other excellent software and Genealogy classes to aid individuals with their research.


A new interactive, hands-on museum for children ages 3-12. The museum has a Swedish focus but the story of Swedish immigration parallels that of many other groups who forged new lives in America. Educational programs are available. Teachers and school administrators may call (773) 728-8111 for more information. The Children's Museum of Immigration is also available for Children's Birthday Parties.


For school children, senior citizens, the handicapped, or touring groups, contact the Museum Center to schedule a tour.


Programs include balladeers and opera singers; male choruses and children's choirs; Swedish films; and lectures.


The Museum Center hosts four major exhibits per year. These exhibits celebrate the arts and crafts of well-known and up-and-coming Scandinavian artists.


A wide assortment of gifts and collectibles are available in this unique ethnic store. Visa and Mastercard are accepted. Also online shopping.. Members receive store discounts.


The Museum Center can be rented for meetings, special programs or parties. Please continue to learn more about this opportunity.
