Exhibit - Katarina Jönsson Söderberg: Between Heaven and Earth
Katarina
Jönsson Söderberg will exhibit Between Heaven and Earth March 20 through
June 14, 2009. Söderberg was born in Uppsala, Sweden. After attending The
Art School of Stockholm, Söderberg was accepted to Nyckelviksskolan at Lidingö
and Gerleborgsskolan in Stockholm. Between Heaven and Earth, depicting
the strong variation between Söderberg's pieces, demonstrates her work with
watercolors, oil paintings, and collages. Söderberg uses calm and clean lines.
With her harmonic color scales, Söderberg often depicts the ocean, stones,
and nature using Sweden's coastline as her inspiration as well as flowers
and dance motives. The thread that binds her various pieces is the common
color palette in which they are displayed. Exhibit will run through Sunday,
June 14.

4th Annual Jenny Lind
Concert
Jenny Lind was born in Stockholm on Oct. 6, 1820. She was only 17 years old
when she sang her first opera. She quickly became a favorite in the Royal
Swedish Opera and soon, all over Europe, people were caught with "Jenny Lind
fever." She traveled to London in 1847, where she first became known as the
"Swedish Nightingale." In 1850 she participated in a highly successful tour
with American showman P.T. Barnum.
Now in its 44th year, the Jenny Lind Scholarship is named after the Swedish
opera star who became known as the Swedish Nightingale. The Royal Swedish
Academy of Music has selected soprano Eva-Lotta Ohlsson as the 2009 "Jenny
Lind." She will perform at the Museum together with accompanist Linda Dahl
Laursen, winner of the Otto Goldschmidt Music Accompaniment Award. Cost: $15
members, $20 non-members. Refreshments will be served. Reservations are recommended.
